NGOPI DI SERPONG IDENTITY DESIGN

The Encounter

We are quite humbled to meet "Ngopi Di Serpong" (will be abbreviated to NDS for further reading) they are a startup focused in the media sector. They aim to create a media that curates and inform the reader about the story behind each Indie Coffee Shop in town, hoping to inspire the reader to try and sparks loyalty to each coffee shop that is featured.

The inception of this company started when the founder finds out that there are too many good coffee shops with proper coffee and story behind it that closed their door for good, just because they can't tell their story out loud. They simply got beaten by those coffee shop that has bigger capital and more "Instagramable" spaces.

Our client thinks that these kinds of trends should not dictate how the coffee market goes. There is a certain "romance" that can be found behind the bar, the owner's dream, the stories, and the bond that happens through the bar, between the owners and consumer which can't just be bought by bigger capital or Instagrammable photo spot.

That's why the media will mainly cover the story behind those coffee shop, why it matters for the owner, and how the passion translates into action inside the shop.

Visual Identity Concept

We are inspired by the owner's vision, in our own words, it seems like they wanted to " Humanise coffee shop", and we asked ourselves, what's more human then a face? That idea of giving a face to coffee industry seems intriguing to us, and we chose to develop the identity further on that idea.

The main logo are a typography - based logo with a custom typeface. The logogram itself take each initials and arrange it to an abstract face form, giving the brand a humane side. The face idea are applied to every supergraphic, both in the stationary and the layout.
