Solar Canopy (2012)
in association with Pauline Suhr, Architect
Client: Corsica Sole (renewable energy production)
Nuvellu (new in corsican) is the concept for the first solar canopy to recharge electric car with 100% solar elecricity. 50 stations, generating each 100kW will be build around Corsica by 2014. These stations will be part of Driv'éco, an industrial pilot project aiming to integrate solar electricity in Smart Grids.
By 2014, Corsica will become one of the first territories in the world to offer a complete infrastructure to drive electric cars recharged with renewable electricity.
The design for the canopy was inspired by the Truxale Occitane, a corsican grasshopper with a caracteristic cone-shaped head.
Behind the narrative was the desire to develop modulable stations that would be adapted to their environment.
As a result, a range of features was created to accomodate every user expericence.
Concerned by its environmental footprint, 70% of the canopy will be made out of Kerto, a laminated veneer lumber (spruce). This high performance material associated with a non toxic fungicide treatment will create the durable structure of the Nuvellu, a pioneer solar canopy for a green mobility in Corsica.
