I Want To But... 

The word “but” is used a lot in our daily lives and sometimes we may not notice this but “but” has been the root to our many excuses and the beginning of many of our “will not”(s) and not “cannot”(s) to the things we are able to do but don’t want to do(s).

And the method of approach using a clock to demonstrate how it is time to stop making excuses, with every minute representing a common excuse that most people will be familiar with. This installation is a conscious effort in hopes to provoke a kind of realisation to the excuses made each day in everybody’s lives.

The project was inspired by Chinese philosopher, 孟子 (Meng Zi) or also known as, Mencius. And the idea comes from this philosophy of “不为” 和 “不能” which means to describe: What your ability cannot accomplish is what you can't do and what your ability can accomplish but you do not do is what you won't do. And so, “不为” 和 “不能” translates, "cannot" and "will not".
