The goal of this project, was to make a well designed book about a designer. I to designed a book about a book cover designer. The designer is Chip Kidd. In the book I write about how he does not have a recognizable style.
I wanted to make the front cover simple because the whole book is about book covers. I used Chips most recognizable icon, his glasses.
This first spread shows some of Chip's portfolio, however I did choose mostly darker covers he has designed so I could keep a theme on this spread.
This spread is about how Chip gets his research for projects. He is always thinking about the longevity of his covers in the process. I used his design from the Jurassic Park book as an example. This is a design that is certainty going to last a long time.
On these pages I write about Chips process. He asks himself if it should be simple or mysterious, I think looking at his work, one can divide his covers into these categories.
On this page I write about Chips beginnings. How he got inspired by comics and his schooling at Penn State.
I kept the back cover simple as I did on the front. I used the glasses logo again and put a portrait of Chip next to my sources.
