Nakagin Capsule Tower, Tokyo
Architect: Kisho Kurokawa
Project Year: 1970-72

Nakagin Capsule Tower, mixed-use residential and office tower designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa (黑川紀章). Each compartment is served as one apartment or studio space with appliances and shower room. Kitchen or laundry, however, not available. The idea is making every unit detachable and replaceable. The Nakagin Capsule Tower is first, and most extreme, capsule architecture experiments the ideas of metabolism as prototype of future minimum living space.

Until now, still residents live in there although it is falling into disrepair. It's possible book a tour via "Showcase Tokyo" on Tripadvisor or even book to stay via airbnb. The contribution will help tower preservation and restoration project.
