"SPACE AS REASSURANCE" BOOK DESIGN
A book designed to act as a means of which “Making the Memorial,” an essay by Maya Lin, can converse with “Species of Space and Other Pieces” by Georges Perec.
I took on the challenge of utilizing subtle gestures (i.e. point size and column placement shifts) to mirror the approach Maya Lin took to both her project and essay. The body text shifts to speak to how even monumental spaces, when orchestrated strategically, can allow for intimate experiences that evoke, remind, and “reassure.” A curated sampling of Perec’s words are placed throughout to act as a nod to the immersive experience one is exposed to when interacting with the monument.
