Blast is a manual citrus juicer that produces small, fresh amounts of juice. The whimsical nature is a departure from my previous design projects; it was inspired by the metaphor of a rocket ship blasting off into space. In the act of juicing, the concept of blasting off is emulated metaphorically as the citrus juice pours from the base of the rocket.  Alessi’s series of bath accessories by CSA and Stefano Pirovano as well as Philippe Stark’s Juicy Salif, inspired the metaphorical concept of Blast, along with the a more decorative and sculptural approach. The primary intent of the design was to evoke a relationship between the user and product in a playful manner while maintaining the integrity and value to the design.
