The Vulnerability of Public Land: Bears Ears
This work is about the importance and vulnerability of public landscapes. In this digital age, we fail to look outside ourselves and see our impact on the world itself. We don’t acknowledge the landscape as something that’s older, wiser, and more essential to life than ourselves as humans. Bears Ears is a landscape that deserves to have its story told in a way that gives honor and dignity to its history and its people. This newspaper is a tangible story that tells of its fragility and struggle with the federal government. It tells of what was, what is now, and what could be if things do not turn around. Giving voice to the voiceless, the empathetic lens instills in the viewer a need for change, and awareness of an issue that is underrepresented in the media. Public land is a privilege, and one that might disappear if we are not careful.
