Project Madcode
What is it
Madcode is a gamefication project aimed to teach kids how to program. In order for them to understand logic, among other topics necessary for programming, a study program was made focusing on the platform Scratch.
Our strategy relied on a good storytelling, so the kids would be engaged in the plot and in the characters they create. It was heavily inspired by space operas.
The kid is an Astrounaut, chosen to attend a special program at an interplanetary base, and alongside his/her companion - the robot Madcode - they would explore the Scratch galaxy, discover new alien species and new planets. In each new planet, they would discover new programming techniques, which would be related to the personal plots of each alien, etc.
In the end, they would recruit new allies, to help further their discoveries in new galaxies, such as Stencyl galaxy, Java galaxy, among others.
The Astronaut
The player would be given 8 sample characters for him to choose from - based on gender (female/male) and skincolors (4 variations). As the Astronaut explores new planets, they will unlock new items to customize their avatar!
The Side Characters
During their journey, the Astronauts will encounter robots, aliens, and a huge and colorful cast of friends.
The Planets
Each planet was built on a specific theme - The Pirate Planet, the Rainbow Planet, the Secret Planet, among many others.
