Love is Love
Award winning writer, performer, artist and activist Lin-Manuel Miranda performed this sonnet as his thank you speech when receiving a Tony for best playwright in 2016. This sonnet was written in response to the Pulse LGBT+ nightclub shooting where 49 people were killed. His words echo and strive to be stand of resistance to those who try and tear down hope and perform acts of obscene affliction against the world.
I used an illustrative style to represent the more organic and human element of the message. The two typefaces I created are made to contrast one another, one with a more whimsical feeling to represent hope and the other more hard edged. The narrative we follow is that of a bird, from its creation of the egg to its triumph of flight until its downfall, eventual rebirth into the light and finally its freedom from the darkness.
