Laser-Cut Acrylic Bird
In this project my class and I were given the task of creating a laser-cut acrylic bird sculpture. The goal of this project was to design and create an abstracted version of a bird by utilizing simple reoccurring shapes and tangents. I decided to design a kookaburra bird because I enjoy their quirky and easily identifiable body shape.
Designing: My first two Illustrator sketches planning out the overall design of the Kookaburra bird.
Prototypes: All of the prototypes I created. These were created with styrofoam to get an idea of how the bird could be put together.
Final Design: The final Illustrator sketch that was used to make the laser-cur file and the extruded drawing (made slightly transparent to mimic the acrylic).
Construction: Process photos of putting the laser-cut pieces together.
The Final Product: The final photos of my laser-cut acrylic Kookaburra bird.
