Description

I was tasked to design a Stop-frame Motion clip to express the 50 years of design excellence in South Africa, in which I was given 5 years of design inventions to use.

I began by researching the 5 years out of the 50 years of design excellence that was given to me.

My data led me to researching different kinds of windows, motorized garage doors, Hymag D-frame breakers and dual-valves, which didn’t look very interesting.
I than realized that people take the everyday things that they have for granted. We than wondered if I took these designs away from people what would happen.
I ended up with deciding that the best way to celebrate South African designs that are being overlooked every day, because they are so common is by taking them away from people and bringing it back to show people how important and great the South African designs are.

Process Work

I decided on using the Dual Valve and the Digi Door to express my view on the 50 years of Design Excellence. All the images were hand drawn and converted into a stop-frame clip.

Testing

When user testing to see whether the correct message of my stop-frame clip was being put across i had received all kinds of responses but all on the correct track.

Design Challenges

I faced many challenges with this piece as i had to position the camera exactly in the same position time and time again, but at the end it all came together with some colour correction and editing.
