When Dan Rooney passed, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Allegheny Health Network asked its in-house design team to produce an ad for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette to honor him. In order to celebrate him as he was in life - a vibrant member of his community, activist, loving husband, and, of course, football fan - we needed a truly great image of him. I found this photo by Jared Wickerham on Getty's rights-managed library of images. It shows Mr. Rooney and his wife at Super Bowl XLV which was an edge-of-your-seat match up against the ultimately victorious Green Bay Packers. The energy of the game and the emotion on their faces is palpable. Our strategy team contacted Getty Images to get special permission to use this photo in an ad buy space. After retouching the image to cool the hot tones created by the stadium lights and masking in the word 'legend' behind Mr. Rooney's head, I worked with the copy team to create a memorial ad that thanked the legendary Mr. Rooney for his great life of service.
