Monroe Park Grocery Co-Op

As its name suggests, the Monroe Park Grocery Cooperative is located in South Bend's Monroe Park Neighborhood. Monroe Park and the surrounding low-income neighborhoods qualify as food deserts, located more than one mile away from a full-service source of food. In addition to food insecurity, these areas also suffer from itinerancy and neglect.

The Monroe Park Grocery Co-op simultaneously creates a market for local producers and offers healthy staples at prices lower than standard grocery stores. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, however, and the spirit of the Co-op inspires neighborhood investment and strengthens the relationships between community members.

The following identity design proposals for the Monroe Park Grocery Co-op are kept simple for cost-effectiveness and ease of reproduction. Each emphasizes the supportive and nurturing nature of the organization while using wheat or seed to recall the Co-op's location in the Midwest, as well as its religious roots (Matthew 4:4).
