Newtown Pride is the title of a recent project that was done in collaboration with Kerin Sovern from Newtown, Connecticut to raise money and show support for the families and victims who were effected by the school shooting in my hometown. As some of you may already know, on December 14, 2012 an egregious tragedy occurred in the town of Newtown where I grew up. There were 20 children and 6 adults who lost their lives in a senseless act of violence that struck a deep emotional cord with people from all over the nation.
Life in Newtown was simple then, when I attended the same Elementary School in Sandy Hook, and continued on through the Middle School and High School in Newtown before going off to college to study Graphic Design. This is my hometown, and with the world watching we saw people come together and build memories for the lives of the innocents. There are no words that could possibly sum up the events that happened here, and it will take time for these scars to heal. My heart goes out to all of the families who were effected and I can only hope that as we move forward we can try to put an end to gun-related violence all over the world.
Art is a very powerful thing. Something that can help spread an idea, or a message, and it gives people hope. This is a great responsibility and I felt that I needed to do something to help, even if it's only in a small way. I designed these t-shirts to help show support, and to get other to show their support for the denizens of my town.
Show your support for Newtown and help put an end to gun violence. All of the proceeds raised from the t-shirt sales are going directly to the school system in Newtown as well as the families who were effected by the school shooting. So far my designs have helped to raise over $60,000. Both of the t-shirt designs shown here can be purchased by visiting:
