On the occasion of the 45-th anniversary of the Splendor Gedanensis award – Office of the Mayor of Gdańsk - published an album entitled Faces of culture in Gdańsk, which is dedicated to the laureates of this prestigious distinction. The Award of the City of Gdańsk in the Splendor Gedanensis Culture Category had been first granted on April 4-th 1973. It’s the oldest and most important distinction for cultural activity in Gdańsk. Within 45 years it had been awarded to 200 people – some of the laureates had received the prize several times. It is they who are the heroes of the album recently published by the city – Faces of culture in Gdańsk. From all the people honoured by this prestigious distinction, authors of the album: Anna Umięcka and Mirella Wąsiewicz (responsible for text preparation) and authors of the photos: Renata Dąbrowska and Rafał Malko, chose to portray 45 of them. The graphical project had been created by Robert Bąk.

The result is a book noble in its simplicity, describing the laureates through a sophisticated form of a photographical portrait and a perceptive, though concise characterization of the laureates. It is enrichened by statements from the artists, who answer questions about what kind of a moment in life and creativity they find themselves in today, without which word their biographies couldn’t be written, what constricts them and what inspires them. From their answers one can make out a collective portrait of Gdańsk’s artistic environment, where terms like tolerance, freedom an unconstrained creative imagination are keys to understanding the world.

Z okazji 45-lecia nagrody Splendor Gedanensis - Biuro Prezydenta Gdańska - wydało album Twarze gdańskiej kultury, poświęcony laureatom prestiżowego wyróżnienia. Nagrodę Miasta Gdańska w Dziedzinie Kultury Splendor Gedanensis pierwszy raz wręczono 4 sierpnia 1973 roku. Jest to najstarsze i najistotniejsze gdańskie wyróżnienie za działalność kulturalną. W ciągu dotychczasowych 45 edycji nagrodzonych zostało 200 osób - niektórzy laureaci otrzymali nagrodę kilkakrotnie. To oni są bohaterami wydanego właśnie przez miasto albumu Twarze gdańskiej kultury. Spośród wszystkich osób uhonorowanych tym prestiżowym wyróżnieniem autorzy albumu: Anna Umięcka i Mirella Wąsiewicz (odpowiedzialne za opracowanie tekstów) oraz autorzy zdjęć: Renata Dąbrowska i Rafał Malko, sportretowali 45 postaci. Autorem projektu graficznego albumu jest Robert Bąk.

Powstało wydawnictwo szlachetne w swej prostocie, opisujące laureatów poprzez wyszukaną formę fotograficznego portretu oraz trafny, choć lapidarny opis charakteryzujący laureatów, wzbogacony o autorskie wypowiedzi twórców odpowiadających na pytania o to, w jakim momencie życia i twórczości dziś się znajdują, bez jakiego słowa nie mogłaby obejść się ich biografia, co ich hamuje, a co uskrzydla. Z ich odpowiedzi wyłania się zbiorowy portret środowiska artystycznego Gdańska, dla którego pojęcia takie jak tolerancja, wolność i niczym nieskrępowana twórcza wyobraźnia są kluczem do pojmowania świata.
