Prothesis is a ’Kinect art performance’ in which graphics as a system of gestures gradually dissolves and melts into the source of the gestures, exceeding its own spatial and temporal limits. With the help of the interactive Kinect technology, graphics, music and human movement can be integrated into a single system of gestures in real time.
We have started to experiment with how a traditional piece of art could be transformed into action, also getting closer to working creatively with reality in doing so. The question arose, that what would happen, if we converted an individual into his or her own gestures, making it possible to experience the process, in this way examining the most fundamental questions of creation: what is the connection between creator and creation, and how does it change in a digital environment that may establish a peculiar system of relations, where the creator herself is the brush and canvas, and simultaneously the creation as well.
We presented the first public results of the working process at Approx. 10 – The Anniversary Festival of The Symptoms, which took place in Trafó House of Contemporary Arts in Budapest, in 6th December, 2012.
