In two parallel classes with Katrin Holst and Prof. Sven Völker, we as beginners had the opportunity to enter the world of typography. In the four chapters Font, Grid, Language and Format we learned the necessary craft of typography as well as the many possibilities of the written and designed word.
After the discussions, lectures and various tasks during the semester, each of us designed and produced smaller and larger projects for each subject area, which were documented in a booklet.
One of the first tasks was to get acquainted with basic, typographical rules in order to be able to apply them later: it included tasks from typewriting, compositions, own language development to logo design, typographic cover redesigns and giant poster designs.
The book covers 65 pages. I have equipped the chapters with the edited tasks in a layout that runs through the whole booklet. In addition to tasks, there are also definitions or explanations for individual topics that were covered during the semester.
