Brief on Vӓӓksy
Vӓӓksy is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed in 2018 by Henry Postons. Vӓӓksy's letterforms are directly inspired by an architectural design in the form of a bridge. The bridge is located in the village of Vӓӓksy, Finland. Each curve in the typeface is inspired from the bridge’s perfectly crafted arch. Each type character follows specific guidelines to create a unified and professional look. Currently the Vӓӓksy family comes in several distinctive weights: light, regular, medium, and bold; all of which are also available in italic. Each font weight comes equipped with dozens of characters that maintain a consistent weight. The defining element that sets Vӓӓksy apart from other sans-serif typefaces is the lack of descenders throughout the uppercase lettering. Removing the descenders from any uppercase letter allows the typeface to flow consistently from line to line. Vӓӓksy has an exceedingly professional look, meaning it can be used in advertisements, branding packages, or virtually any design and document.
Historically Inspired Curves
Vӓӓksy's letterforms are inspired by an architectural design in the form of a bridge. The bridge is located in the small village of Vӓӓksy, Finland. It crosses over the town's iconic canal, known to be the largest freshwater canal in Finland. Each curve in the Vӓӓksy typeface is inspired directly from the bridge’s unique arch.
Letterforms
Vӓӓksy has a unique look and feel to the typeface but remains consistent with each letterform. The uppercase letters are different than most typefaces as there are no descenders throughout all of the letterforms. Each curved letter integrates the architectural inspiration from the Vӓӓksy Canal bridge. Each character from both the Canadian English and Finnish alphabets are included in the final typeface.
Typeface Weights
Vӓӓksy is currently available in four weights: light, regular, medium, and bold. Each weight is carefully crafted to reflect it's potential uses. All of the following weights come with an italicized option.
Numbers
Vӓӓksy has a distinct numerical design with every number designed with absolute precision, the numbers have a unified look. The typeface was designed using a precise grid, therefore it has virtually identical weights. Throughout the numerical characters, the angles and curves stay consistent to create a clear set of numbers that can be used for any document or design.
