eden developed from the need that I discovered through research for an organic and locally produced competitor with Izze. Besides making eden more sustainable through being organic and locally produced, the name of this product needed to communicate that this drink is full of life, organic, and enjoyable. A few names that came from research and brainstorming: Annabelle, which means grace, favor, beauty, and lovable; Eva, which means full of life; and Eve, which means life. I pursued Eve at first, yet felt there was a slightly negative connotation to this name because of the idea related to Eve’s eating of the forbidden fruit. eden, which means place of pleasure, or delight, does not have that negative connotation and even provokes positive thoughts about good fruit grown naturally in a garden.

I researched and found that re-use of bottles saves energy, natural resources, and is better for the environment then recycling. Thus, I chose to use glass bottles for eden, with the intention for the bottles to be re-used. To make eden’s production even more sustainable and cue the audience that this product is organic, I chose to print the labels for eden’s bottle using soy inks with 100% variegated recycled paper.
