Sports on the Go

Sports on the Go

Sports on the Go is an app that allows people who travel a lot (such as for work) to find others with similar sporting interests in various locations.
Sketches and fonts
I started off by sketching ideas (on the beach in Mexico) looking at fonts:
Concept 1: Laces
Instead of portraying specific sports or something too general I started with the shoes they use, and their laces in particular, as a common motif.
Concept 2: Movement
This route tries to capture the sense of movement that most sports involve through the use of arrows.
Concept 3: Coming together
As well as a sense of movement I started using arrows to communicate a sense of coming together - like the app's users finding each other.
Concept 4: 'O' as Ball
For this route I wanted to create a highly stylized version full of character. Substituting  balls for the 'O' also added a more whimsical tone to the logo.
Concept 5: Abstract shape
I used hexagons coming together as an abstract way to represent the app's athletes in motion to create something more unique for Sports on the Go.
Concept 6: Location pin
Since a key part of the app is finding like minded sports enthusiasts in the same location I started substituting a location pin for letter in the app's name. This was the logo chosen by the stakeholders.
The icon can change based on the user's sport of choice.
And type variations in-situ to validate the choice of font:
