RR Engine: T500 HPC Welding Inner Chill Blocks

T500 Welding Inner Chill Blocks
HPC Stage 1-6; IPC Stage 7-8

Welding work on tipblade is necessary to build up the blade to its maximum height. Effect ofwelding heat must be taken into account while designing chill block. The chillblocks assist holding the blade in position during operation. The chill blockis made of copper that have a good thermal conductivity which allows heattransfer along with the coolant. The chill block is designed following theprofile of intended airfoil area as shown in the image.
