Montacute House (NT and NPG)

Commissioned by National Portrait Gallery and National Trust to fully illustrate and design a booklet to accompany their 2018-2020 portrait exhibition at Montacute House in Somerset. I used hand-drawn pen and ink illustrations and textures from the exhibition and House, before using digital illustration to design and bring the booklet together. 2018 being the centenary for 'women's suffrage' and 'votes for women', thus, portraits were chosen by postgraduates of Bristol University, in commemoration of this period in history. It has been a privilege to create artwork to commemorate this cause.
The booklet is educational, as well as fun and challenging. I had the opportunity of collaborating with National Trust on the booklet's content, but I was given free rein for the design and illustration used, including the design of the characters. I also created my own font for this booklet, using Adobe Photoshop and font creating software.
As well as the main theme of 'strong women in history', I maintained the visual concept  'The More You Look, The More You See', which was the National Trust's idea, on every page and to be an activity in the booklet itself as well as in the exhibition.
The characters were created from my research on the the people within the portraits. 'Jack' the monkey was an actual pet of Elizabeth Stuart, (James I daughter) as well as having parrots and a whole menagerie of animals in her house. Her's is the most inspiring life-story in the exhibition and is the star of the show.
