The 71st Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival takes place from April 13th through the 15th boasts fourteen different areas of entertainment for visitors. With concerts featuring Country Western and Tejano stars, carnival games, and rodeo performances, it’s a great opportunity for the whole family to do something together.

The festival originally started in 1948 when the local Poteet Rotary Club organized the event to give World War II veterans an incentive to return to their farms. The club also wanted to improve the pack of strawberries to give buyers more uniform-looking berries. Now an endangered crop,Poteet’s community is eager to preserve this crucial part of their economy and local history. People come from all across the map to experience this unique festival and to taste Poteet’s exceptional strawberries!

3rd Annual Mission Reach Flotilla Festival

Although new to San Antonio’s April festivities, the Mission Reach Flotilla Festival is excited to be working with the San Antonio River Authority to preserve the San Antonio River Basin’s natural beauty and history. The festival features a flotilla water parade, costume contest, live music, and delicious local vendors with tons of food to sample.

All of the funds from the Mission Reach Flotilla Festival go towards bringing awareness to the Mission Reach Ecosystem Restoration and Recreation Project on the River. With 8 miles of hiking and bike trails, pavilions perfect for picnics, and new water edge landings for watercraft, the Project is excited to bring new life to the region, with both entertainment and education.

Fiesta San Antonio and A Night in Old Town San Antonio

“A Night in Old San Antonio” will take place this year from April 24 through April 27, during the city’s Fiesta San Antonio celebration. The whole festival began in 1891 as a one-parade event meant to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto, and soon grew into a full-fledged, city-wide event that brings millions of dollars of revenue into the Alamo City.

The San Antonio Conservation Society began “A Night in Old San Antonio” in 1938, and later joined forces with Fiesta San Antonio in 1946. As part of the city’s celebrations, NIOSA funds go specifically to the Conservation Society and their efforts to preserve San Antonio’s historic buildings, places, and customs. There’s lots of food to enjoy, thirteen live musical acts, carnival games, and thousands of friendly volunteers excited to be part of the production.
