Explorations in Material

I believe play and exploration is essential to learn, and learning is essential to growth. Over the past 2-3 years. I've had the opportunity to explore many materials and each one has taught me something different that i believe is now essential to my being.
This was my first exploration with vector drawings and then laser printing at a summer workshop on 3D Printing, the first time I saw my idea turn into something tangible. Each of the rings here are wearable and the complacence of seeing someone wear it, was unparalleled. This was one of those moments when you make a decision that you maybe regret but your gut says it's right one, this workshop was when I decided to pursue design.
One of my first classes in my college was exploration with wire, it seems simple until you actually attempt doing it. By the end of each day of this class I had pain in fingers and probably a few cuts. A realisation dawned on me, my decision was going to take a lot of work and definitely a few cuts but it was still worth it and there wasn't an ounce of regret.
The above work is a scarf block printed with a resist printing technique called 'Ajrakh'. Ajrakh in persian means sky, and this form of printing uses natural dyes to get the colours of the sky, shades of blue, green, red, white and black. I came across this technique when I went to Ajrakhpur, Gujrat on an educational trip, learning the complete technique was not possible in one day but i was able to print a scarf with some guidance. The entire process consisted of 14 steps of which I did 6.
Each piece of work has layers and layers of work, we only get to see the final product and look at it in awe. I believe the process, more that the final product, is awe inspiring. We choose not to know it so the final product seems magical.
