PROJECT BRIEF
Design a logo for an event -- Wine Tasting -- at an iconic landmark. Using the two, incorporate both elements together to represent the theme and properties of the landmark.
Begin research and create two lists of 20 characteristics that represent the event and location. Narrow the list to the 8 characteristics each, then create a matrix that ties them together.
Finally, refine sketch and begin designing on Illustrator.
SKETCHES
After doing some research on the backgrounds of my topic and getting a pretty good feel for what's needed, I have created a matrix to help brainstorm ideas. It helped organize my thoughts and merge them together to create clever concepts.
LOGO
This final logo is composed of a crane and wine glass, which includes the following meaning.
A. The crane represents the liquid being poured into the wine glass. In Japan, the crane represents good fortune and longevity. It is also referred to as the "bird of happiness".
B. The wine glass represents the stem and foot, used for drinking wine and the legs of the crane.
COLOR
For the color, I chose the Japanese traditional color sakura-iro (桜色), meaning "sakura color".
In Japan, cherry blossoms are called sakura, a special flower for the people and the country.
Cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of the spring, a time of renewal, and the fleeting nature of life. Since this event is held at fuji-san (富士山) or Mt. Fuji, cherry blossoms play a part in attracting tourists to the mountain. By incorporating it's color scheme, I hope to generate a positive impact to the viewer and to encourage them to visit this event.
