Mrembo is a term derived from Kiswahili and is at times used as slang in
Kenya which means pretty lady or rather how most men refer to women
on the regular even when they are mere strangers.
The idea was to depict not only the physical aspect of a woman's
beauty but inner beauty that cherishes the livelihood and sisterhood of
women in this current society. We wanted to showcase the modern day
lady that is liberated yet rebellious, independent as well as showing aspects
of duality by putting girly looks and androgynous looks. We
mostly focused on the androgynous aspect as those who dress so feel
safer in such garments who then ends up being mistaken to be a lesbian
compared to the girly girl.
