Design Director - Ford EX Concept

The Ford EX Concept was built to continue exploring terrain even when the road ends.

In conjunction with the design team at LDM Technologies, under the direction of designer Stewart Reed, and the design team from Ford Truck, the EX was designed and built as a vehicle that maximizes its off-road capabilities.

The two seater features a light-weight, durable chrome moly frame with minimum bodywork, all designed for ideal functionality without sacrificing good looks. The interior features a unique sliding steering column, allowing the driver to enter and exit the vehicle with ease. The seats
are fashioned with 4-point harnesses to keep the driver and passenger secured tightly in the doorless vehicle. The seats also features a pattern of open eyelets, inspired by the seating of Ford's legendary series of GT-40 cars, allowing for ventilation to the seated occupants.

The engine is based on the Explore V6 powertrain, with an additional supercharger raising the horsepower rating up to 300HP with 330 lbs/ft. of torque. This is mated to the Explorer's four-wheel drive system, fitted with custom built B.F. Goodrich off road tires.

The EX made its debut at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
