There is something magical about spending time up amongst the mountains when far from home. I love how quickly the weather can change and how the wildlife and environment adapts to an ever changing range of conditions. Muffled sounds from heavy snow drifts, the powder flakes of snow falling from branches disturbed by birds above, catches like diamond dust in the morning sunlight. Huge trees tower everywhere like guardians. Yet water finds its way through the depth of solid ice, birds sing and make merry, the sun catches the beauty around her landscape and suddenly in the space of walking a few hundred yards you can feel the shadow of advancing clouds fall across you like a veil. A sense of a storm brewing, your hair will blow back from your face as the wind gathers pace, your footsteps quicken, suddenly you feel vulnerable and instinct tells you to turn around and head home, back to the warmth of the fire and the solitude of a wooden cabin. Deer skit and scurry as though urging you on, nothing can beat the drama of mother nature when she wants to play!
