ANIMATING A LINE

A two-dimensional drawing of 1000 lines was trans- formed into a three-dimensional suspended structure.
The structure is based on the proccess of drawing the 1000 lines, where the final drawing is interpreted as a plan view of it.
LINES AND PLANES

Interpreting the suspended structure into a set of lines and planes.
The structure is then made on a 10 degree sloped ground. It is made based on the idea of creating a curve through a set of straight lines and the intertwining or overlapping of spaces.
MAPPING THE ‘RITE OF SPRING’

The program for the structure derives from the ballet “Rite of Spring”. In order to translate the dance into a structure, specific information has to be extracted.

The mapping is of the pace of the dance. Time is shown in a linear matter from top to bottom, where each segment maps the speed of the moment; the slower the move- ment the bigger the segment.
It is then transferred into the topography where the long lines show capture the slowness and the short lines capture the speed.
TECTONICS

A method of construction was derived from the Lines and Planes Structure. In essence, it is captur- ing the continuity of the form; how a wall condition can turn a corner into an overhead then a wall and also a ground condition.
STRENGTH IN MATERIALS

In exploring statics and strength, a 1”:1’ model was made to show the different thickness and materials.

The walls and ground floor is made of cast-in concrete and the second floor is made of wood with exposed wooden beams underneath.
HOUSE FOR A DANCE

The structure aims to incorporate the tectonics cre- ated and the idea of multiple passageways along with considering the pace travelling within. This resulted in the various angled walls, to convey more or less space.
