Botanical Research Facility
After collaborating with nine other students during a master planning phase of this studio course we developed an overarching master plan for the castle. The planning brought new programming to the castle including housing, commerical activities, restaurants, cafes, an extensive botanical garden surrounding the castle's perimeter, etc.
After the master planning phase our class broke into designing individual structures within the master plan scheme. The structure I designed within the master plan was for a botanical research facility; something that would be attached to the function of the botanical garden [which was also to be a large community park for the city of Figueres]. The research facilities design respects the existing structure of the castle by engaging it in a respectful manner, but at the same time clearly defines itself as something new.
