Voices: A mostly expected journey

VOICES: A mostly expected journey

Introduction:

This particular assignment requires students to make a video regarding their personal journey towards where they are now, or simply a story regarding a personal struggle they have. My particular story is a story about overcoming self doubt and a fear of failure, something I have to overcome fairly often when it comes to work. Also due to my interest in the fantasy genre and the stories within I styled the story to sound and feel like a fantasy story (Although it had to be shortened a lot)

Materials:

Adobe Spark (Video and Post), Ipad, Home computer

Creative Process:

I first started with a struggle that was quite personal to me (That being self doubt and a fear of failure) and I decided to style the personal story to be based on something from the fantasy genre, I decided for the protagonist to be a hobbit, this was because out of most fantasy settings a hobbit tends to have personality traits that resemble my own (Particularly self consciousness, self doubt and not necessarily the most courageous in all situations), I choose for there to be a deuteragonist in the form of an experienced, highly competent adventurer to simply represent the more confident and brave state I aspire to be at some point. The name of the story "A mostly expected journey" is based off of the subtitle to the book "The Hobbit" which reads "An unexpected journey" the "mostly expected" part of the title is due to the

Workflow:

I started by opening Adobe Spark and making a video from scratch on my Home computer  by logging in and then clicking the "+" icon and selecting "Video" as what I want to make. Then I began writing the story making sure to look for grammatical errors; after taking entirely too long I was helped by James Kinney (My professor) editing the story to reduce it's length and to end it appropriately.

After constructing the base story I recorded my voice by pressing a microphone icon in the iPad app for Adobe Spark and speaking clearly; I tried to make sure my tone of voice was appropriate to points in the Story I was working on. I also selected the "Sage" visual theme and Medieval Times soundtrack for the video and to prepare it for submission.

I pasted the video to a Behance Project and made an image for the cover by making a Spark Post and setting it's image to that of a castle (Available as a stock image) downloading and uploading it as the cover image.

Final Product:
Conclusion:

This assignment was very stressful as I had never made a video before, especially using the Adobe Spark application. However now that I know how to make such a video I feel confident that I could make another if I need to. Overall I would say I learned a lot from the assignment and am thankful for that.
