The ‘Cyrus’ chair was designed during the time I worked at District Eight. The assignment was to design a soft upholstery armchair, efficient for production and targeted for online customers.
I wanted the chair to have a minimal silhouette, and the sketch started out with a round backrest and the rest of the steel frame emerged naturally from it. At the time, I was obsessed with frame structures where the backrest curves around into armrests and continue to form front legs. The back legs are in angel, joining and supporting the main frame. Backrest and seat cushion are upholstered in a round profile, giving the chair a feminine look. Brass details serves as both technical and aesthetic features.
The ‘Cyrus’ chair was first introduced and displayed at the International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS), March 2018.
