PICHWAI - A lost art form ?

The word Pichvai stands for hanging at the back (Sanskrit word “Pichh” means back and “wais” means hanging). Pichvai paintings are big sized paintings done on cotton cloth using natural colors and are hung behind the idol of Lord Shrinath ji to depict his leelas.

The following article was written as a part of a secondary research that was conducted of the said art form. All the aspects were taken into consideration namely. We deployed the method of interpretivism, in our open ended one-on-one structured interviews with the participants. The field work was done in two phases in two separate physical spaces which cannot be revealed at this point of time.
