ATLANTE DEL CIBO
DI TORINO METROPOLITANA
↳ Atlas of Food

Many cities in Europe and Extra-Europe are setting the goal to realise new policies dedicated to food themes.

In Italy, few cities are interested in food policies. Thanks to the "Milan urban food policy pact", Milan is the first city in Italy to set the guidelines to realise urban food policies. Until now, 159 cities worldwide subscribed to this pact. Turin is one of them, and the Atlas of Food project set a new step to improve Turin's food programmes.

Communicate food themes becomes essential to build an equal and sustainable future for everyone. As a part of the Atlas of Food's research team, I developed an identity that highlights and enhances the Turin food system's complexity, 'Opening Up' the city in a peculiar way.

RESEARCH

Atlante del Cibo di Torino Metropolitana - Atlas of Food - was born from the Turin Capital of Food, inside the Third Strategic Plan of the City 'Turin Metropolis 2025'. This project is developed in collaboration between the Turin Chamber of Commerce, the Polytechnic University of Turin, the University of Turin and the University of Gastronomic Science, and aim to produce new knowledge to increase the visibility of the Turin food system.

The CONCEPT - the nature expanding from the city - express the intention to analyse the Metropolitans Area of Turin. The expansion idea reflects an open system made from agriculture, food, people and territory.

The STRATEGY sees annual reports and a web platform as primary points to explain the food system complexity. The project wants to engage with the civil society and the citizens, first consumers who can collaborate for the city's future.

IDENTITY APPLICATION
↳ Posters
Following the visual language, the posters use the five images to frame the Metropolitan Area of Turin. This allows for a consistent yet variable combination of visuals, which will change according to the five agri-food chain phase.

↳ Brochures
Although more content-heavy, the brochures use the same visual layout as the posters. The first page communicates information about the project and the event, while the main visual content - the five images - spreads across each brochure's second page.

REPORT
This report maps and communicates the Turin Metropolitan Food Systems as the strategy's primary point to explain its complexity. Have a look here!

WEBSITE
As the second point to explain the food system complexity, the website communicates articles, projects, and reports within a national and international context. The First Life project, inside the website, is a participatory crowdsourcing platform based on an interactive map for active users involvement. The users become active producers of the map development, reporting what is going on in the city for the food system improvement.

IN CONCLUSION

Since the inauguration day at the Cavallerizaa Reale in Turin on the 29th of May 2017, the Atlas of food reached substantial visibility. This project hopes for greater collaboration from the food system actors in the nearest future. Engage with civil society through more reports and events will become essential to implement the local food policies.
