The search for a found image, not intentionally drawn, but discovered in a worked surface, directs all my creative energies.
I turn the piece, erase and rub into the medium until purely abstract mark-making becomes three-dimensional. Compelling human images appear. Select figures guide me in adjusting value and focus to resolve composition.
Themes exploring our mutual dependency range from quiet relationship moments, grace of individuals in daily tasks to involvement in dynamics of powerful world forces.
Images frequently reflect our zeitgeist. Figures in flux, action captured in movement and transparent layers of multiple views allow details to be slowly released.
The eruption of human struggle as subject matter signaled a deep shift in my work.
