Peacock is the Indian national bird and also one of the most beautiful birds of this earth. It is a symbol of love, beauty, grace, and mysticism, the main reasons this illustration was inspired by and it has received this recognition mainly because of its long association with Indian life, culture, and civilization. It's mesmerizing demonstration of extending its tail erect like a fan is believed to indicate rainfall. Its dance movement has been incorporated in most of the Indian folklore, including Bharatha Natyam a major genre of Indian classical dance. 

I generally make rough pencil sketches of the main subject like the ones above before they are digitally enhanced after which I add other elements like flowers, stars, hearts etc...as in the case of this illustration, directly using my Wacom pen tab.
