Manila, Manila & More: A Guide to the City of Manila

MANILA, MANILA & MORE
The Manila We Know and Love

OVERVIEW
Manila, Manila & More is a travel guide made for tourists and people who are tourists in their own country.

Under the book's editor, Raymond Ang, we took on the helm of Creative Direction, and spent over a year designing, researching and laying out the book. Today, Manila, Manila & More is on the Best Sellers list, is widely available in major bookstores around the Philippines, and is now even stocked at bookstores in New York and Singapore.

WHAT WE DID
Creative Direction, Illustration, Layout & Graphic Design

DISTINGUISHING OLD & NEW MANILA

We made it our goal to visually establish the difference between Old Manila, New Manila, and the "More" that lies beyond. This entailed developing a color palette to represent each section, and the use of specific typefaces and illustrations to create distinction.

THE DESIGN DIRECTION

The real Manila is charmingly chaotic, gritty, and crowded. We made sure that these elements were reflected on the book’s design. “The book barely leaves blank space—just like the city. It’s packed with images of skyscrapers, art installations, food and landmarks (Inquirer, 2017)”.
We learned through experience that Manila is best explored in neighborhoods. We made sure to illustrate each area to serve as the book's cover photos for every location.
Some pages from the book: An interview with Ivan Man Dy on Old Manila, an interview with Asia's Best Female Chef (2016), Margarita Fores on Filipino Food, a guide to Malate, and an interview with well-known stylist, Liz Uy on Filipino Fashion.

Manila, Manila, and More is available in leading bookstores nationwide, McNally Jackson Books in New York, and Books Actually Singapore. View their updated stockists on Instagram.
