Hospitality Design Project

This was my hospitality project and a group effort for the culinary portfolio show. Interior design students (Myself and Sara Cote) were paired with culinary students (Ricardo Rosas, Sean Cooper, & Octavius Ervin - pictured in that order) and were asked to create a restaurant and hotel experience in another country. The culinary students chose the location to be Dubai, and decided what they would want the restaurant to be essentially becoming our clients. Sara worked on the restaurant and I worked on the hotel lobby and specialty shop. From there we created what would come to be known as the Vespertine Resort and Wahah Steakhouse. Sara and I worked together on the presentation boards and the model to show the end result and the culinary students worked on the menu, a business plan, and of course a sample from the menu (braised short ribs on top of a three cheese macaroni, and yes it was as good as it sounds). We then put it all together for the culinary portfolio show, creating a table display we felt was complimentary of Dubai.
Vespertine means to come alive at night. The boards show materials, lighting, furniture, concept sketches, and renderings.
Wahah is arabic for oasis. The boards show materials, lighting, furniture, concept sketches, and renderings.
This is a complete photo of our model. The model features a wrap around lazy river, and indoor pool separating the hotel lobby from the restaurant. The large windows at both ends of the pool would open up so people could easily float around the resort. For when they are ready to relax there are two swim up bars as well as lounge seating. The pool also features caves for added fun. The restaurant has a loft area that is not shown on the model (we didn't want to close off the view to the kitchen). In the show kitchen there is imagery that is always changing being projected onto the floor to add an extra flair. The lobby has a ton of custom made furnishings to speak to every occupant including a custom made reception and concierge kiosk. Both sides feature water fountains and large hanging entry lighting.
