Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões

The Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões is the main access by sea to Porto and it only had a small passengers terminal that, despite its historical and architectural significance, did not allow the arrival of large cruise ships. Because of this, the Administração dos Portos do Douro e Leixões, decided to build a second terminal that would improve trade and serve as a node between the cruise ship dock, the marina and the city.
Designed by the Portuguese architect Luís Pedro Silva, the Porto Cruise Terminal, despite being a small building, especially when compared with the big boats that anchor next to it, it is the largest project that has been built in the Port of Leixões and an important gateway to the entire region.
Situated at the South Mole of the Port of Leixões, in Matosinhos town, just 3 Km away from the city of Porto, Portugal, it won the international distinction ‘Building of the Year 2017’, in the category of best public building, at the awards of ArchDaily, the most visited architecture site in the world. The prize, with the original designation ‘Building of the Year’ 2017, has been running for eight consecutive years and aims to distinguish the best architectural projects worldwide.
