BIOMASS I
I used a software called Mandelbulb to create the organic form out of three dimensional fractal algorithms. After exporting sliced scans of this shape and importing them into Cinema4D as a mesh, I used Octane's scattering feature to distribute a million tiny spheres of varying sizes and colors representative of organic tissue.

Using plugins from Merk Vilson, I created the main bone structure from a sphere. Cloning this structure and re-texturing it appropriately yielded the yellow membrane that coats much of it. The sinewy red ligaments seen traversing the interior were made in a similar manner. The sporadic yellow veins were created using a vine grower plugin that enabled an organic growth pattern, wrapping itself around any mesh that crossed its path.

I rendered a series of animations that recreate some kind of organic superstructure moving in subtle and unsettling ways. The base shapes were created using very simple modeling and subdivision techniques, and the structure itself was composed of about a dozen of these forms within a radial cloner. Animating the resulting shape was as simple as rotating the clones on their axis.
