A second year architecture student project at Kansas State University.
Project Premise: Based on a case study of their choice for the previous project, students are to design a house for a couple near Manhattan, KS. She is a specialist in sustainable design at Kansas State University. He is a fish and wildlife manager for Pottawamie State Fishing Lake #2.
My Design: Based on the Magney House by Glenn Murcutt, the design seeks to utilize an elongated E/W axis and therefore maximize the use of passive solar heating and passive solar cooling.
The house is layed out to include the core living spaces, a open air breezway and a large two-story volume living room which can be used for large groups or shut off to save energy.
