When I worked in the Devision of Student Affairs at Georgia State University, we designed a campaign for Martin Luther King Day. The design we developed needed to adapt to many applications, some of which we wouldn't know about until later in the process. The team's solution was to pair the sans serif type and color blocks with the more gestural, round illustration of MLK. These elements could be rearranged in many ways without losing the integrity of the design.
The illustration was drawn by a member of the team using a brush made up of the letters MLK repeated. From a distance, it appears to be simply a drawing. However, when one looks more closely, this detail can be seen.
The campaign centered around a convocation and several events. The booklet above is the program for the convocation. The postcards were available for students to take and promoted the events that would take place during the month. Below are the posters for various events.
