El Dia de los Muertos Card Deck

The theme chosen for the deck of cards was inspired by the Day of the Dead, El Dia de los Muertos, It's a day where friends and family gathered together to pray and remember their ancestors. A card deck is a game that can bring friends and family together. With that in mind, this deck  was created to represent in a fun, familiar, friendly design, that can bring people together in the same essence that El Dia de los Muertos does.
Mexico for example, celebrates this day by remembering their ancestors and loved ones. This is done by representing their passed family members with decorations such as flowers and candles.  The people also show respect to their loved ones by remembering their ancestors with memorabilia and celebrating the life they lived and the celebration of life itself.
The deck of cards also shows the same themes throughout. Flowers are a big element of the design, decorating the cards throughout the deck. Flowers are used in the background, in the the skulls and the letters have decorative flower patterns, staying true to the Mexican customs of the celebration of life.  Only the Aces’ “A” is filled with flowers to bring contrast from the rest of the deck of cards. Another element used is skulls, which represent the dead ancestors being remembered and celebrated. Which is shown in the king of diamonds, queen of hearts and jack of clubs. The image of candles are also used underneath each suit, as candles are used during this particular day.
