33 Ada is a theoretical lodging house project in the Suburb of Hamilton Hill, Perth Western Australia. Reacting to a brief that required multiple, temporary dwellings for low income singles /couples / small families. The awkwardly sized block provided many challenges in-terms of residential code, and enabling a creative, and comfortable development to be realised.
The proposed project exists as a 3 story, triangular lodging house, with the ability to house anywhere from 2 - 6 individual 'pods' - Small, enclosed bedroom spaces, with up to 3 on each floor, except the ground floor that houses communal facilities, parking, outdoor space, and a Universal access apartment.

Each Floor contains communal facilities for the occupants, encouraging community and fostering relationships between neighbours. It was important to allow for open spaces to be shared, while the pods allow for private space.
The Face of the project is punctuated by multiple operable openings, with shade/privacy screens and moveable transparent panels, creating a multi-layerd facade capable of providing numerous layers of transparency, openness, and privacy.

Each floor was desired to be able to feel as if it was a large open balcony, or floor plate, with the pods sitting inserted on the floor plate, the whole open space was separated visually by the internal services shaft, creating an open, yet divided living space. Giving the living spaces an 'Outdoor' feel.
