Each Journal was to be written in the First Person by an unnamed author, similar to the main character from HG Wells' 'The War of the Worlds'. Any paleontological or Geological inaccuracies are my own, and I apologize in advance for them. I still like this project and the idea behind it though.
The attempt at differentiating between the male animals and female animals required a bit of speculative art. Because Gorgonopsids fill the same predatory niche as lions I based the male animal off of male lions, giving them a mane. After all these animals had more in common with mammals than reptiles and are closely related to mammals alive today. I felt that this journal bordered on pure science-fiction, but I don't think I quite crossed that line...not too far anyway.
Pardon my attempt at writing a blend between fiction and reality here. The Idea of the project was to write a fictionalized account of explorers journaling in the Permian Period, with the intent of creating a "naturalist's Diary", rather like Charles Darwin's writings whilst studying the Galapagos Islands.
