HEROISM IN THE AGE OF BEETHOVEN
Stanford Ad Campaign

This one day conference featured scholars discussing the role of Heroism in Beethoven's music and its reception.

"Not surprisingly, perhaps, a central work under discussion is the Third Symphony, the “Eroica.” Although Beethoven originally dedicated this work to Napoleon Bonaparte, he felt compelled to scratch the name from the score when, to his profound disillusionment, Napoleon revoked his earlier commitment to the spirit of republicanism by crowning himself emperor. Who, then, is the hero of the symphony? Does he have a specific identity? And how can such a person be invoked in music?"

ART IN A DIGITAL AGE
Stanford Ad Campaign

In October I was commissioned by Toni Gauthier (the Design Director of Stanford Arts Programs) to design the ad campaign for Stanford Arts Institute's “Art in a Digital Age” symposium event to be held on November 2, 2012. Art in a Digital Age was a one-day conference featuring artists, scholars, and institutional leaders discussing the nature of art in a digital age.

"How are habits, institutions, and arts practices changing? How does the digital realm inform our experience of older art forms? What role can the academy play in both developing new work and fostering critical engagement with new arts practices?"

Speakers included Philip Auslander, Jennifer Brody, Rebecca Fiebrink, Howard Herring, Maira Kalman, Jon McKenzie, Joanne McNeil, Andrea Polli, Srinija Srinivasan, and Ellen Ullman.
