Luz e Sombra - ( Shadows and Light )
These drawings were made during a workshop organised by Urban Sketchers Lisbon, hosted by Mário Linhares, at the Modern Art Collection at Gulbenkian Museum.
The first exercise was to draw only the shadows of this abstract sculpture.
The general shape is somehow lost, by the nature of the exercise.
Did it pretty swiftly, so had some the minutes left to add a quick sketch of some fellow drawers.
The second exercise was to outline only the light, then fill the shade areas.
Again, some time left to doodle around a bit more.
The third exercise, less constraint, was use both disciplines of the previous exercises.
My choice was this beautiful early 20th century sculpture by Canto da Maya, backlit by a big window.
Used only the good old 0,5 pentel marker to draw, then a quick gray and color brush-marker touch.
Thanks for watching!  :-)
