Project Brief

The project brief from Steve and Rob at Pie & Vinyl was relatively simple; they needed a logo, brand identity and several print items designed in order to launch their Record Cafe and park interest amongst the residents of Southsea, Hampshire.
The guys had a strong idea of the overall look they wanted the brand to have and requested that we didn’t stray too far from their existing ideal of a ‘Victorian curiosity shop with a modern touch’.

The Solution

The final logo idea was devised during initial project discussions between the two parties, with both sets keen on the idea of having a pie-playing gramophone as the logo and branding motif. In order to emphasise the desired Victorian look, the logo was designed to imitate an old metal etching. This motif was then combined with a selection of 19th and 20th Century typefaces to complete the logo and create the brand identity.
Once the proposed colour palettes were also approved and the brand identity was created, the interior signs and menus were designed using these elements and the menu was embellished with stock images of other Victorian etchings.
Prior to the cafe opening, the clients also used the logo to create a range of merchandise including t-shirts, tote bags and posters and commissioned a large adhesive vinyl logo for the shop window.
The website was created using our ‘Artist’ theme which we have built for clients looking for a WordPress website on a restricted budget. This theme was customised with a surrealist background and the company’s branding. To visit the site, please click on the link below:
