Christmas FM

Proposed logo concepts for Christmas FM, Ireland's radio station dedicated to Christmas themed music that raises money for different charities annually. I designed this logo on an 11 hour flight to Ireland during which the passenger beside me said "Christmas FM - I love that station. Such a happy station. I listen to it over the internet at home (Palo Alto)".
The station still used the original logo from 2008 and there was a desire for something more minimalist and modern.

"What we'd like is a modern, vibrant logo which has a Christmas feel, not necessarily a Christmassy logo. We like a clever use of creative fonts. I think, more than anything, that is what we are looking for is a modern font given a Christmas flavour for "Christmas" and a contrasting one for the FM"
They also provided a sheet of logos to show where we would like to end up:
Sketches and fonts
Before the flight to Ireland I started sketching ideas...
...and then looked at modern minimalist fonts as well as traditional Christmasy fonts.
Concept 1: Modern minimalism
I began integrating Christmas imagery into into the name.
Concept 2: The magic of Christmas
Next I wanted to capture some of the Christmas sparkle.
Concept 3: Christmas tree
After that I started looking at substituting a Christmas tree for the 'A' as a more subtle approach.
...and trying a second more modern tree to a more contemporary font.
Concept 4: Snowmen
And no Christmas concept wold be complete without a snowman...
...or two snowmen having a snowball fight.
